Wonderful Weekend!

Had the most wonderful weekend.  My family and friends decided to go down to Ybor City last Saturday and enjoy the "night parade".  It is kinda like a mini mardi gra, complete with floats, folks dressed up as pirates, and beads....lots and lots of beads.  Of course, we hung out at our favorite bar...while there....Billy was our designated driver....and it was just a hoot!  Then we all came back to the marina and sat around the campfire...(well some of us had to go to bed when they came home)..not me, I was up for pizza and hotdogs and hamburgers and.....lots of tums later....LOL!  OH, almost forgot...earlier on Saturday a mama dolphin and a couple of youngsters put on the most fabulous show for us all.  I so wish I would have had my camera, but alas I did not.  They were jumping way up into the air....almost looked like they were playing tag with one another.  I have never seen anything like that before and it was awesome and the "show" lasted for about 15 to 20 minutes before they moved on out into the bay.  It's no wonder we are having trouble convincing ourselves to move on from here.  Billy is still working on "buttoning up" the underside of the fiver, but should be finished up in a few days.. I hope.  I thought we might be leaving sometime this week, but Billy reminded me how cold that journey north is going to be and we might even have some problems finding rv parks open.  Ya see, we have to be in South Dakota by April 6th so Billy can renew his driver's license.  I want to spend some time in the Florida panhandle before we start the journey to SD, but we have been watching the weather there and it seems it is always in the path of whatever weather system is rolling through.  We sure have been spoiled by the weather here in Tampa....at any rate....sooner rather than later...we will be hitching up and heading out!

  1. We lived in Tampa for 30 years and just north of Tallahassee for 5 years...and there is no comparison in the weather. The panhandle gets hit hard with each cold front and this is also tornado season. So be careful in your northern journey. That's the main reason we decided to become Florida residents again...no South Dakota for us in April. Travel safe.

  2. Have you thought about the possibility of getting a six month extension on his license?

  3. As you travel through these states check out the weather.com TOR-CON predictions. They tell you what towns to avoid. I used this website last spring while traveling, and it worked out great. Had to drive the long way around some areas, but I never drove through any bad weather. I have to be in CO on April 11th, and I am dragging my feet about leaving TX. Its in the 60's at night here and its in the 30's at night in NM and CO.

  4. I agree with Judy - definitely check into the extension. Then you don't have to rush and can work around the weather better. Can you tell we are all worried about you guys. Be safe. Great party - glad you recovered.

  5. Hm. Maybe, just maybe someone needs to be sent off on his own to get his driver's license renewed? Just an idea.
I once drove for nine whole months on an expired license. Must have let the notice slip under a pile of stuff. Didn't know it had expired until I went to rent a car. That was a shocker. Fortunately for me, my better half had her license handy and I was able to go to the ministry and get my issue sorted out.
You don't really need it until you get stopped. Don't get stopped.

  6. The month of Gasparilla is always so exciting. It's fun to dress up as a pirate and watch the parade with good people all around. Good luck finding an RV park to stay at. I hope it's not too hard for you to find. Make campground reservations as soon as possible, so you can be sure to secure a campsite.
