Back in the Stick House?

This past weekend I moved back into our stick house......oh, don't worry it was just a temporary thing.  My son lives in our stick house at present....he and Mesha.  Remember Mesha is the Siberian Husky he adopted from our local shelter.  Sam was out of town for the weekend and I volunteered to take care of Mesha while he was gone.
I had a sewing project I needed to work on so I set up one of the spare bedrooms as my workspace.  I'm reupholstering our dining chairs for the fifth wheel.  I'll share some before and after photos next time.  I had a heck of a time with that project.....guess I'm a little rusty...been a while since I have even had my sewing machine out!
Mesha was her usual "puppy'"self.....and sweet as ever.  She is such the cuddle puppy....every night at bedtime she comes up on the bed and snuggles and cuddles with many goodnite kisses.  She loves to lay her head right on your chest and bat those big blue eyes.....I melt everytime!
So, darling husband Billy was on his own.  Just him and the furballs.  I think he kinda missed me....although he'll never admit to it.
How did it feel being back in that "stick" house?  It was strange....I mean it still feels like my house, but not my home if you know what I mean.  I'm still very content to live in our fifthwheel, our little home on wheels.  I don't feel cramped or crowed....I love my recliner and oh, how I missed our airbed.  I'll never go back to a regular mattress....that I can promise you.  I love my kitchen too......plenty of counter space and when I bake or cook all my ingredients and tools are right at my fingertips.  My only complaint is the "rv stove"....the industry really does need to do some upgrading in that department.  Our shower in the fifthwheel is pretty roomy too, but I'll admit it was nice being in a bathroom where the toilet handle doesn't reside on the floor and the shower head was a good foot above my head!  That being said.....yes, I would do it all over again...in a heartbeat.  I love the fact that wherever I go my little home on wheels follows behind.....I love exploring....seeing what's around that next curve in the road or just over the hill.  I love meeting new people...sharing our stories.  This is just such a special time in our lives....one I know we will cherish and always look back upon with a smile and a "remember when".....

I mentioned our water problem last time.....this is a photo of our filter. That is only after just a few days. Pretty amazing and nasty.
This is DH's solution.....he is going to try two filters so we shall see how that works. If this fails we will give Culligan a call and see what they can do for us.

Still working on the stick house, can't tell you how tired I am, but it needs to be done. We have been sanding, priming, and painting cabinets. Tomorrow we are going to install the new countertops and hopefully our new sink. I'll be sure and post some photos. DH and I always thought it would be great fun to buy an older home and restore it, but we have learned through this experience that......that time has passed. This house is about to kill both of us. Who knew, that once you reach middle age, your body no longer enjoys crawling around on the floor, climbing up and down ladders, and painting....painting.....and painting......LOL! I sure hope who ever buys this place appreciates all the work we have done to update it. Ok, it is finally time to take my Advil and roll myself into bed.....sure hope I can get out of bed in the morning.

Busy, Busy

Sorry I have not gotten back to blogging on a more regular basis. The house is just eating up a lot of my spare time. Thank you goes out to Mike about the water situation. We will look into that possibility. As to more photos of my grandson, be careful what you wish for.......you may get more than you bargained for......LOL

I am taking photos of our 'work in progress' at the house and I will add some grandson photos to the mix as well for my next blog.

We ordered our carpet for the fifth wheel and it is to be installed August 24th. I can't wait to see the new carpet, but getting all the furniture out of the fifth wheel and temporarily moving back into the stick house is going to be a pain to say the least.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Look for my next post to be Monday or Tuesday of next week.....till then

Back In Lafayette

Finally made it back into Lafayette Wednesday evening. We decided to stay at the Leisure Time Campground until we could check on conditions at the family river site. It seems the weather here has been wet for most of the last month. The campground has full hook up sites and we ended up in a large pull through. We have a fairly level gravel site with some grass and lots of mature trees. Just out our back window you can get a glimpse of the river. We decided to just stay the week here.

Thursday morning we drove up to the family river site. Everything looks good and the ground didn't seem to saturated---yet. We need to do the usual clean up of sticks and fallen branches and the grassy area towards the front of the lot needs mowed---if it ever stops raining! LOL! The weather man seems to think that we might get 7 days in a row of dry weather starting on Sunday---sure hope he is right. It would be nice to have everything cleaned up and dried out before we move the fiver up there next Thursday.

Today, Friday May 15th, we are at the stick house. We are making preparations to put the house on the market June 1. There are a few small projects we will continue to work on while the house is on the market---who knows we might get lucky and have someone take it just as it is! I think the two main projects are replacing counter tops in the kitchen and finishing the trim in the dining room. We will see how it goes. This year we made the decision not to move back into the house, but to stay in our fiver. It will be much easier to keep the stick house in "show house" condition if we and the furballs are not mucking it up everyday. We are currently using the cable internet at the house, but we will have that disconnected at the end of the month. We will go back to our satellite system at the river. Boy oh boy, I will sure miss the cable internet. I feel like I'm traveling at the 'speed of light' these days.

Good to be back in Indiana? Yes, this is the place I was born and raised in and there are lots of good memories, family and friends here.
