Feb 9, 2009

Oh yeah, I’m still here. Just needed a little “blogging break”! I have been stuck at my sewing table and there is now an end in sight. I have to sew the buttons on the last 4 pair of window panels and then I can start the “fun” stuff. The painting of the valances. I will post some photos of the painting process for those of you that are interested.

The weather has turned a little on the chilly side this week. We will still be in the 60’s during the day and I know I should not complain, but it is below average for yuma this time of year. So, I guess I“m complaining :) just a little....

I have to confess I have been bitten by the ”beading bug“. I thought sure I had escaped it, but my creative side just can stand ignoring all the beautiful beading projects I have seen. I have been doing some research and so when I do buy--I will do it right. Now that we fulltime, I need to be careful about my purchases. I used to ”stock up“ on project supplies. Now, I only buy when I’m ready to actually ”do“ the project. Can’t afford to have those” I’ll‘ get to that someday“ projects waiting in the wings. Although I must confess, I do have a couple of those on board right now.......shhhhh....told tell DH! Old habits are hard to break!

Today I did not sit at my sewing machine. DH decided he wanted to check out the local flea market. So, we took the dogs out for a little playtime in the field next to the rv park and then headed out to the flea market. What a disappointment. Last year we went to a flea market in Florida that was tremendous. Along with all the “junk”, there was booth after booth of fresh produce, great prices--that’s the reason we go. We expected to find the same here. There were only two booths and not nearly the variety or prices we had found in Florida. We did buy some lettuce, bananas, and some pears. We found the prices and the produce here to be not much better than the grocery stores.

Big Thank you to everyone that emailed or commented about the parks in San Diego. After much research, we think we have made a decision to stay at Santee Lakes. It has hiking trails, a nice area to walk the furballs, and the price is far better than anywhere else we have looked. We will have to wait till the end of March to obtain the spot we want, but that’s ok. As always, our plans are often set in “jello”!

Feb 4, 2009

Just another day in paradise. Not much to report. I am still working on the window treatments.

We are starting to discuss our next destination. We will have been here in Yuma a month Feb 22. I want to go to San Diego and see the zoo and such. DH knows that will be expensive, but I think we are both ready for a splurge! If anyone knows of a nice park in the San Diego area would love to hear from you......

Tell then.........

Feb 3,2009

Today was busy once again. It was another shopping day for us. I wanted to check out the local Jo Anns. DH needed to stop in at Lowes for some screws and brackets. He decided he wanted to add some extra support under the cornice frames he made me. We also stopped at the visitor’s center to get a yuma map and some brochures on AZ attractions. Last but not least, we stopped at our favorite Wal Mart to pick up a few odds and ends and fill up our 7 gal jug with drinking water. Some of you may or may not know that the water here in Yuma is high in sodium. Dh says he can’t really taste it, but I do. It is not a strong salty taste, but it does have a different taste and “feel” in your month. Plus it really makes for lousy coffee!

At the Jo Anns, I found some really nice fabric that went well with my new drapery panels. I’m going to make some “doggie covers” for the furniture. Our dogs don’t really shed all that much, but they do bring in their fair share of the great outdoors. Sometimes it gets deposited on our furniture. I’m not quite sure of the design aspect yet, but I’ll post photos once I have them done. I know a lot of us travel with furbabies, so maybe these will be of interest to some of you. The design needs to be simple, stay put, and above all washable! Ok, back to the sewing table........

Big Thanks to those of you that posted on the window treatments for the fiver. I’m glad you liked them. I do have a bit of an edge when it comes to window treatments. I ran my own window treatment workroom for over 10yrs back in Indiana. I don’t miss the “work” part of that job, but I do miss the “satisfaction” I would get the day the window treatments went up. They make such a huge difference in a room. That is one of the reason I choose to go with a totally beige color scheme in the fiver when we purchased it. It gave me a “blank” palette to work with so I could add virtually any color or design to make it my own. My only problem is time. I should have plenty of it, but somehow it is lacking. Hard to sit at the sewing table when the sun is shining and temps are in the 80’s! I do have a goal. I want to have all of this done before the rv dreams rally in October. Again, more feedback. I would love to put together some type of seminar on “interior design 101 for rv’ers”. I’d like to share what I have done and give others some ideas for their rvs.

Today I did take a break from the sewing table. I went down to the clubhouse to get with the “stitch, bitch, and craft” ladies. I took my dog portrait down---yeah still working on that dang thing! We had a great time, lots of chatting and solving of world problems. One of the ladies provided us with a special treat. Hot from the oven---friendship bread. Don’t ask me for a recipe, but it was delicious!

Back at the fiver, I worked on a blog I’m putting together for my choral club back home. When it is finished, I’ll post the web address and you all can tell me what you think.

Guess that is about it for now........be happy

Feb 1, 2009

Here are the photos I promised on the window treatments. I spent the whole day working on them. I know---they are different. Just like me! I always try to put my own little special "twist" on things. I love stripes, I love pink and green, I love checks. So, I just combined them all. These are stationary panels and I will add a valance in between
the panels. The cornice will be painted canvas. I'll will probably do something involving nature. You can "click" on the photos for a larger photo. I have 3 windows done, only 7 more to go. LOL! Once all the panels are done I'll start the valances. Oh, DH made the framework for me to attach all this to and I'm using velcro. That way, they can be easily taken down for cleaning or whatever!

Any questions, comments, or ? Always welcome......

Jan 31, 2009

Sorry no entry for Jan 30, I have just been too busy! I am finally in “sew mode” and working on my curtains for the fiver. They are looking so good, but taking a lot more time then I thought to complete. I will post some photos when I’m a little further along......

We did go up to the clubhouse for the pancake breakfast this am. We heard the clanging of the pan as the breakfast volunteers went up and down each lane to “call” us to breakfast. They set up a large grill for the pancakes and sausage, so your meal is served to you right off the grill. NO STEAM TRAYS!! Fresh and hot and mmmmmmm so good!

The rest of the day I spent at the sewing machine and I’m probably looking at another 5 to 6 days to finish! I should have some photos for you tomorrow.......

Almost forgot, remember I told you about the “military bombing site”......well we got surprised by one of those today. I was sitting at the sewing machine and DH at the computer. It shook the entire trailer, in fact for a moment we thought someone had actually “hit” us with their vehicle. Sure did get the old heart a pumping---better than aerobics!
